UFGI G&G Student Grant Proposal/Award Policy

The UF Genetics Institute would like to encourage and recognize students in our Ph.D. program who go above and beyond to seek out grant funding. When students do this, they ease the financial burden on their home department for a portion of their salary and further their educational endeavors by navigating the grant world to secure funding for their groundbreaking research.

Award Amounts

The UFGI will pay:

  • $100 for each research grant submission
  • $500 for each research grant funded

Payments are issues as a one-time Lump-Sum Payment.  Please be advised that this Lump-Sum Payment will be issued through the Payroll system and will be taxable income.

How to Request Payment

  1. Obtain a letter from the Division of Sponsored Programs in the UF Office of Research, certifying the grant submission and/or award.
  2. Email this letter to the UFGI Director and cc the Academic Program Specialist and it will be routed for payment. The letters must include the student’s name, title of Scope of Work, Sponsor submitted to, date (or at least month/year) of submission, identify if a proposal or award, and be signed off by one of the DSP staff members. A letter may include multiple proposals/awards.

Eligibility & Timing

Students may request this payment for up to 2 semesters prior to submission. Because this program is just being initiated, we will allow submissions from the start of the student’s tenure with the UFGI through May 15, 2026.
