Five UFGI Faculty Elected as 2024 AAAS Fellows
The University of Florida Genetics Institute (UFGI) is proud to celebrate five of its distinguished faculty members who have been elected as 2024 Fellows of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), one of the most prestigious honors in the scientific community.
The AAAS, the world’s largest general scientific society and publisher of the Science family of journals, annually recognizes researchers, educators, and innovators who have made extraordinary contributions to science and society. This year, 14 UF faculty members were named AAAS Fellows, and five are members of UFGI! This reflects the institute’s strength in interdisciplinary research and scientific excellence.

Dr. William Barbazuk – Department of Biology
Dr. Daniel Hahn – Department of Entomology and Nematology
Dr. Donald McCarty – Department of Horticultural Sciences, UF/IFAS
Dr. Wilfred Vermerris – Department of Microbiology and Cell Science, UF/IFAS
Dr. Arun Srivastava – Department of Pediatrics, College of Medicine
These researchers represent a wide range of disciplines and exemplify the mission of UFGI to promote excellence in genetics and genomics research across the university.
