Collecting data and research to combat mosquito-borne diseases and insecticide resistance. 

"They're the most important animal to humans in terms of their impact on death and disabilities that impact humans. So, studying them and figuring out a way to control them [and] identify them to respond. Those are great motivations to study them."

Exploring discovery-based science to understand the phylogenies and evolutionary biology of ferns.

New UFGI spotlight article: Dr. Mingyi Xie, assist New UFGI spotlight article: Dr. Mingyi Xie, assistant professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology! 🧬

Investigating how certain molecules impact the development and function of cells, the Xie Lab is researching how microRNA levels are regulated through their degradation by mRNAs. 

"Recently, it was discovered that mRNAs that are normally targeted by miRNAs for degradation can actually turn the tables on miRNA and cause them to degrade!"
