Florida Genetics Symposium 2019- Archive

For more than a decade, the University of Florida Genetics Institute has hosted the Florida Genetics Symposium. This event attracts genetics and genomics researchers, students and industries from across the world. Speakers will present and discuss genetics and genomics topics. Approximately 100 students and independent researchers will present their research and findings during two poster presentation sessions. Poster session winners will be awarded certificates and monetary awards for educational/research needs. The event will be held Nov. 4-5, 2019. The UF Genetics Institute looks forward to welcoming you to the Florida Genetics Symposium 2019. The deadline to submit abstracts is Oct. 18.

Keynote Speaker: Robert B. Darnell, MD, PhD

ROBERT AND HARRIET HEILBRUNN PROFESSOR INVESTIGATOR, THE ROCKEFELLER UNIVERSITY, HOWARD HUGHES MEDICAL INSTITUTE SENIOR ATTENDING PHYSICIAN

Darnell will be discussing cell type specific RNA splicing regulation and insights that this work is shedding on neurological development and disease.

Darnell uses high-throughput sequencing and other techniques to investigate the proteins that regulate RNA and thereby affect gene expression. He became interested in this system through his study of naturally occurring tumor immunity associated with a group of rare brain disorders. His interests have since expanded to neuron-specific RNA-binding proteins in the mammalian brain, and more generally to functional genomics and human disease.
